Slow progress since picking up David's Midas through being busy at work and then a bout of food poisoning but today I actually drove it for the first time.
When I picked the car up David mentioned a slight weep of brake fluid down the pedal inside, so on Thursday I decided to tackle this.
Bled the fluid level down and removed the master cylinder to find a servo pretty much full of DOT4.
I'd already bought a new master cylinder but finding the servo had been exposed to fluid for some time I decided to swap that with a spare off the shelf (as my other 2 kit cars over the years have been Metro based).
That was not a fun job, getting access to the 4 nuts securing the servo but after a lot of time spent on my back in the footwell it was removed. Refitting the built up replacement was actually much quicker, and getting the system bled was only made annoying by my metric spanner set and the old imperial bleed nipples on the rear drums.
Finally I adjusted the brake switch to it actually works, and with that insured and taxed the Midas and took it for a a quick test drive. That turned into 100 miles and so far it went well.
I do have to confess that I managed to wash the keys/key fob Friday, fortunately the immobiliser was not activated and locking/unlocking with the central locking doesn't seem to be kicking the immobiliser in, but if anyone can advise where to get a fob and how to get it mated to the 3AS immobiliser unit that would be much appreciated.
