timing chain wear

no tensioner and 35 years of wear

Methinks it might be worth taking the head off to see what surprises lurk within. Variable valve timing is most effective when it is predictable.

That's amazing!
Any sign of fractured bits of plastic in the sump? The tensioner must've gone somewhere...
