I hope you have narrow hips, are you sure you have room for that gearbox? or perhaps it won't go so far forward as to affect the seat area?

Hi Stu,

I checked that gearbox is 570mm from the diff centre front section of the gearbox.
I also checked my std Mini seating position and I have 760mm from the centre line of a rear wheel arch. I think wheel base of Midas is 4"(100mm) longer so I should be OK.
This Volvo 360 setup is very good as it uses a torque tube, it make more or less separate chassie. I think old Lotus has similar setup.

People are talking about make sure I have to have good spread of subframe mounts and so on. I would have front subframe which will use std subframe mount position as per design of Midas. I will have a torque tube which have prop shaft inside but it will connect an engine to a gearbox as 1 unit. I hope I make sense to you people!

Cheers

570mm leaves you with plenty of room. :)

Can you keep the standard steering rack and position then?

That's my friend is my main concern with this build.
I might use nova steering rack. I think they are type that arms are about 2-3" below main body.

Here's mine on 175/60-13 tyres to give you an idea how your 185/55-14's may look

Hi Stu,

The back end looks high on yours.
Are all Midas like that?
I have bought Yamaha R1 rear shock for my build with double wish born setup.
They are adjustable height as standard so it might be OK. I worked out that I will need to cut 50mm off wish borns and 200mm off subframe itself.

It was very high, that's standard factory Midas set-up, nearly all were like that. I got around to lowering it a short while after that.

Hi,

I got my bell housings from the machine shop back!

This is Swift Gti half gearbox casing.

This is Volvo 360 bell housing machined down to what I need.

This is what I will end up. I know it's not pretty but as long as it works, I don't mind.

I will be sending these 2 bits to my mate so he can Tig weld it for me.
