Thats a good point, what is the tip-over point? 1549cc, got to stick below that then as an engine choice, not that many over 1.6 would fit!

I'm still vying for a 1.5 Honda D series Vtec, one day!

It's got a much smaller valve/rocker cover than the B series and looks like it would fit with oodles of room....;

Yes it's 1549. The 1.5 D-series would be my choice if I didn't already have another engine. Some cars even have impressively high gearing that would suit 12" wheels really well, and of course lots of room to retain the master cylinders.

Although hopefully VED will done away with in he not too distant future.

And all speed engineering are no more than 13 miles/32minutes from my home....one day.

And of course with nothing better to do on the morning commute, I've found a D15Z8 in Leicester which is good for 114bhp (according to wikipedia).

Power, cost, availability, reliability, lower tax bracket....why am I not yet doing this conversion?!

From memory the car to get is the Civic 1.5i LS. that has the highest diff ratio. Never buy just an engine for a project like this, always buy a complete car.

Definitely buying a complete car is the way to go Stu, easier to use the new loom from the donor car and modify it over I think. Give yourself a new ignition, plugs into the dashboard speedo and ECU easy business.

The 1.5i LS is around 99bhp, which is plenty in a Midas and thats before engine mods of course, as I understand that's without vtec?

It has 114 hp, and a very good 24.3 per thousand 5th gear on the standard 14" wheels.

I can't remember now, I do remember some cars were described VTEC and others not, but they all had the same power. The 1.5 from the CRX imports is around 130 hp, I forget the engine designation. When you start looking into Honda stuff you realise what a bewildering array of engine variations they produced.

B-series in a GTM Coupe. 10.97 @ 127 mph, that'd take some beating in a Midas.
