Postby 8386nw » Sat May 03, 2014 12:51 pm

I got these wheels cheep which I may refurbish, unfortunately the centre caps are missing. Has anyone got some to sell or ideas for fabricating new ones?
Thanks and Regards
Phil

Hello David,

Thanks for the ebay link, £60 for 4 seems very expensive.

They do seem expensive, and you could just wait and see if a cheaper set appears. There's no saying how long you'd need to wait, though...

...and no, I'm not the seller and neither do I know the seller! I suspect he knows these are getting harder to find now, hence the price.

However, take a look at this - from Rimmer Brothers' website, a centre cap for a Rover Metro wheel (part no. 7 on the diagram) is £14. A NEW one, of course...

Another option would be to make your own. Now there's a job for a 3D printer! Or if you bought one, made a mould from it, and used that to create a set out of fibreglass..!

Thanks for the reply, I will keep looking for a cheaper set. The wheels I have are the 13" ones but I think the same centre caps came with undesirable metric version. I had thought of cutting a set from perspex (which would also loose the MG badge :-)) but then I would have the issue of how to fit......

Well, if you lose the MG badge but could replace it with a Midas badge, that might be worthwhile... ;)

Hi Phil,

I lost one of my MG centre caps a couple of years ago. Being a nerd and being fed up with the MG centre caps, I designed my own. I had them 3D-printed and painted them. A lot of work and ridiculously expensive. So it's just for fun and a great learning experience (learning to use a CAD system).

So here is the prototype (Still need to cut back the clear coat to make it shine)
