Hi Ed,
I bought new Metro steering racks from Minispares, I think I have two new ones in stock.

Thanks Alan!
Just send them a mail now, there out off stock.
Now waiting on a reply from bedford gas struts, using a umbrella is getting silly.
Hope to get some positive mails this week.

Where can i buy the radioactive sphere fluid in the UK?

Kind regards , Ed

Have you thought about an MGF rack? If you used an MGF rack you could always us the steering column as well and that has a power steering motor. If you get stuck I'll bring one of my spare racks to Stoneleigh.

Isn't that rack longer than an A-series Metro rack Alan?

We are talking Mk 3, so not much different, I have seen them shortened and fitted into a Mini sub frame. But if needs must, that's what we will have to do, as I'm guessing A series Metro racks are going to be like rocking horse poo.

I don't have an MGF rack here so can't say for sure. so not much different means they're not the same yes?

If my memory is correct they're both longer and the stub for the steering column is in a different place, is that correct?

I've never seen an MGF or K-series steering rack fitted to a Mini with a Mini track, yes seen them in Minis with the k-series frame of course, do you have a link to your reference?

I count 10 racks for sale here, granted most are second-hand or remanufactured, so why buy a rack that is too long and has the steering column in the wrong place for your car?

Hi Stuart,
The only reason for suggesting an MGF rack, is so you can use the steering column with the electric power steering. I know it's not a direct swop , but it can be adapted. David Johnson who is just down the road from me, dissembled one and cut it shorter and fitted it to a Mini sub frame. I did see it, but it was a long time ago and cannot remember the details. I'll be speaking to him about a windscreen, so I'll gather the information and report back.
I have an MGF rack and column in stock somewhere, if I find it I'll photograph it along side a Metro rack and we can compare the difference. But as time goes by, we will need to start thinking out outside of the box. Some spares are becoming unavailable.

Thanks Alan.

David's modified rack sounds interesting, I imagine it is fairly involved. Changing the track rods could be done also, but with the pivot point further out bump-steer would be introduced.

and I agree that Metro parts will become harder to find going forward.

Hmmmmm no need for Powerrrrrrrr steering yet.
Like the conversion, but rather go the A serie Metro way.
No luck yet on the rack, have to see eBay.
Just ordered the gas struts from the gas spring company.
Especially the RHD are getting rare on the continent lol.
Keep me informed, see you @ Stoneleigh
