Hi Guys,

I have recently bought a Midas through EBay (but not using EBay if that makes sense)

It is a Bronze that appears to be an Ex-Factory Demo car, it's covered in Midtec stickers...

Are the doors from another car or were they part of the original kit? Mine don'f fit very well and are looking really tatty I was thinking of replacing them instead of rebuilding them, but they will be rebuilt if they have to be...

Has anyone replaced the rear glass with perspex? Can you advise who to use? I was thinking of doing a smoked white piece of 5mm. Will 5mm be think enough do you think?

Can the engine be lifted out the bonnet? Or does it need to be dropped out the bottom the the subframe?

Has anyone fitted a rear view camera or parking sensors? That is something I'm thinking of doing as well...

Has anyone fitted a rear spoiler, mine gets a bit of a waggly tail when its driven fast, is a spolier the best way of doing this?

Also is anyone near Milton Keynes?

It would be good to meet a fellow Midas owner from what I have seen on the road there are not many about...

Hello Khaleel, Welcome to the Midas Cars Forum.

The Doors are unique to the Midas Cars. The have a unique door frame and glass too. The lock and catches are Ford Escort Mk2. The hinges are a Midas item.

The engine can be lifted out of the top if you pay attention to removing the starter motor, alternator and the 'WOK' clutch cover first. You might need to twist the engine slightly as it pops out the top so you will need two of you to do this.

You would replace the rear glass with plexi but I doubt it would seal very well against the rubber seal as it is more pliable than glass.

I am sure others may be able to give you Mk2 specific answers.

Welcome to the forum. It seems you bought the white Midtec car. That's an interesting piece of history. I've put a few answers in between your questions. No doubt other more experienced Bronze owners will jump in.

The doors are original Midas, If you want others you have to buy doors from a Bronze. Poor fit is usually solvable by refurbishing and adjusting the hinges, other aperture seals (some use thick seals pushing the doors out), Installing the doorcards under tension so they pull the lower edge inside etc. It can be a nightmare.

It is possible to use perspex or better polycarbonate sheets for window. But they scratch easily. If your rear window is in good shape I would hang to it. Esspecially if you have a heated screen. Alan recently had a batch rear screens produced with heating. A must because Midasses tend to let rain water in which causes a fogged up window.

Yes, you can. Remove everything from the engine (inlet, exhaust, alternator, starter motor etc.). With a chain hoist and an extra pair of hands it's easy to get out. At a certain point you have to slightly turn the engine.

The Midas has very good aerodynamics. Your restless back end is caused by something else, possibly play in the suspension, bad tyres or worn out dampers and/or springs. A spoiler won't cure the problem. There are Midasses with spoilers but this is merely for estetics. With the undertrays in place a Midas will be stable until at least 130mph (but the engine will have run out of air before that)

I fitted rear parking sensors to our Cortez some time ago and reported this in the club mag a few issues back. Used just about the cheapest device on the market, very simple fit and it works perfectly well with progressive bleeps and flashing light warnings.

As Hans has already stated, I'm about to do a group buy for new heated rear hatches. I've just done a group buy for heated front screens and am awaiting delivery of the front screens. When the front screens are distributed, I will then try and get the rear hatch group buy going. I need 50 orders because of the heat treatment, I have about twelve interested parties at the moment, so 50 is a tall order, but we have had 60 heated front screens, including the present order. So we may do it with a bit of determination.Perspex in my opinion is not a lasting solution for an everyday car.

Your waggle handling is just sloppy suspension, your car is probably twenty years old, so all of your suspension components are a little tired! I was told by A111(from this forum) that the Marks 1 & 2 Midas's can easily out handle a Mini!
