my first midas

Postby shaun and paula » Fri May 24, 2013 7:08 pm

Hi, I have today purchased my first Midas where I think I may need a little help.
I believe it to be a mark 1 with chassis number D010001, it has been stood for approx 9 years so is covered in moss etc:

Welcome to the forum Shaun. It looks like you may now own the very first Midas made!

Have you got any photos?

That's rather cool ;) it looks unmolested. A quick clean and off you go! Certainly been stood a while that's for sure.

If it's mainly complete that's half the battle already won.

Thank you for such a quick and warm response.
It is complete apart from carpets, i think the rear sub frame may be past its best. The exhaust is shot and the engine needs a complete strip, I am unable to open the doors so I had to climb in through the boot just to open the bonnet and found Its a 1275 with stage 2 head.
I don't know if its a good thing or not if this car is the very first midas
Hopefully now my wife has seen it she speaks to me again soon

A power washer will turn you into top restorer in an instant. AlanD on here may be the man to talk to about rear beams, everything else is pretty much all Mini. Alastair on here is the owner of Alternative Cars which owns the Midas brand which may also be useful to you.

Hi Shaun,
Welcome to the forum. I hope you will enjoy the Midas ownership. I checked the 1994 member and car supplement and your car was the fourth car produced. It was put on the road in 1979 by a Shirley and Mike Smart and started life with a 1300 engine (could be anything). A 1275 with stage 2 head is superb, plenty of oomph for such a light car.

Hi Hans
Thank you for the information of who put it on the road, would they of been a Shirley and Mike Smart from Kidderminster, Worcestershire?
