Hi from Nico

Postby TR6 ANSA » Mon Jan 12, 2009 11:01 pm

Hello, I'm Nico from The Netherlands. I live 10 KM north of Amsterdam in Koog aan de Zaan. I have a red Midas Bronze fitted with a MG Metro engine.
I bought the car in september 2005. At that moment I was looking for an Austin Mini, but when I saw the bronze I had to buy it. No chance of it getting eaten by the rust bug was an enormous advantage.

Hello Nico,

Welcome to the forum, that looks like a car in very good condition and the rear ride hight looks correct, instead of sitting too high like a 4WD car. The car looks as though it has been "well sorted" as we say in England. It's a much more sensible buy than a Mini. How did it get to Holland. I thought that there were only Mk3 Midas's in Holland. I've just viewed your slideshow very nice indeed! Where were you going on the train and tell us about the old timers rally?

Regards Alan D.

The picture flatters the condition of the car a bit, but the ride height is ok. In 2002 the car was imported by the previous dutch owner, after the Midas he first imported was stolen before it was even registered!
In 2006 I took the car sleeper train in Düsseldorf, a 2,5 hours drive from my home. The next morning I was in Innsbruck. Originally I had bought a ticket for Bolzano, North Italy, but of course the Italian railway were on strike! Not a problem for me, because I had planned to go skiing a day or 2 on the gletscher in Hintertux, Austria.
The car rallye you see in the pictures is the Mille Miglia. Nowadays a regularity rerun of the real race that took place from 1928 to 1957. I have visted this rerun a couple of times since 1999, the year I bought my Triumph TR6, but 2006 was the first and until now the only time I took the Bronze to Italy.
The Mille Miglia is what the name implies, 1000 mile. In the real race in 1955 Stirling Moss set an Incredible record, it took him and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson 10 h 07' 48", almost an average of 100mph!
If you are in Italy in may, you have to visit the rerun, as you can see there are wonderful cars present.

Hi Nico,

Wellcome to the forum. How are you, I have not seen you long time. Another car from the Dutch Midas Squadron! Hopefully we will see you this year with your Bronze at a meeting. Perhaps, you want to go with us to Stoneleigh (May 4/5)?

Regards, Peter

Life's ok with me! I plan to visit at least one meeting of the mini seven club. I won't go to Stoneleigh, at that moment I'm sailing in the province of Friesland for about 10 days.

Hi Nico,

Welcome to the forum.

Is that yacht sailing or motor sailing?

I do a bit of yachting, when I get a chance.

Kind regards,

David
