Hi, I'm looking at buying a 1987 Midas Gold Coupe as my first car as I saw one for sale and it really caught my eye however I'm having trouble getting insurance with me being 17 and just passed my test. Any advice?
Thanks, Will.

Hello and welcome Will, I found Graham Sykes cheapest for myself http://www.graham-sykes.co.uk/motorquote.html

Failing that google for kit car insurance and get a quote from a few of them.

Good luck :)

Hello Will,

Have you tried the specialist companies that advertise in the kit car magazines? If you get a result could you let me know? My eldest is making noises about having a Midas when he's old enough and I'd rather know if it's a goer now before I buy an old one to do up.

Cheers

Hi there

Everyone faces this problem when starting out into their motoring career, firstly dont despair.

Join a good motoring club, I would suggest the Midas Owners Club who can be found on the web, you will then be able to make use of any club discounts available, such as with Footman James. These people are brokers who deal in particular with the Kit Car market and will help you to get the best deal possible. I must warn you that premiums are fairly steep in the first year or so. However if you drive sensibly and dont try to impress your mates the premiums rapidly decrease in the next few years.

My experience is that I have three sons, one of whom started motoring in a old Midas Bronze and who still looks back at those times with delight.

All the best in your search , just dont give up at the first hurdle, you can talk direct to both the Midas Owners Club and Footman James if you come along to the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show held over the early May Bank Holiday. David Johnson

Don't wish to be a "downer", but I tried like hell to get cover for my 17 year old daughter for the convertible and failed miserably. The main reason was the 25 year old age limit. However, a local motor club member got "competition cover" for his 17 year old son, under the son's name, for a rally prepped nova, which covers for night time road rallies as well as everyday use. This cover is for a "competition car", and was considerably cheaper than normal cover!!!!!!
You could call your car a "comp car", owned by the young 'un. Who'd know whether it was competing, or not?
I'll try and get more info and let you know.
It would be nice if this prob was sorted
