Hi my name is Roli.
I´ve bought a Midas Bronze MKII last week. I´ve been building up a few minis in the past.
And now I try too get the Midas on the road. But there´s much work to do.
The body has some cracks but not concerning the Gfk shell only cosmetical concerning the gelcoat.
the rear subframe is in bad condition and fuel tank too. seats engine and breaks are missing. Apart from that my Midas is in good condition.

Tue to this situation I´d have some questions:

Which products are best for reparing the bodyshell?
which avaylable seats do fit into the MIdas?
and does the aloy rear subframe sold at MInispares (for the axel beamers) fit into the MIdas?

Hello Roli.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy it.

I used grp filler to repair cracks. It seems to do the trick. Has some strands of grp in the filler to give extra strength.

There are a few seats that fit. I understand MX5 ones 'may' fit. I am certain Tillet b5 seats will fit, along with Huntmasters and Ridgard.

I have some Rover 220 tomcat seats spare from my Mk3 now I have the Tillets. Not sure if they will fit a mk2/1 though.

The beam axle is specific to the Midas. I understand the width is different. There are drawings on Hans site and here somewhere (I think) to make a beam axle.

Hi Roli,
Welcome to the forum. Did you buy Michael Kaufmann's Midas or are you the second Midas owner in Austria?

Hi David!

thanks for your fast answer and your usefull tips.

I´m not realy shure if grp filler is the best solution for repairing the cracks. I did watch some youtube-tutorials (about repairing grp) where many different (polyesterfiller and/or gelcoat systems (TAB-Plastics) produkts are used.

The problem is they are all specificatet to repairing sailing boats. But i think it´s the same structure as the Midasshell.??

the rear subframe i was talking about is the following:

Description

Specially developed Alluminium box (beam axle) section to replace the rear subframe for use with coil over sprngs. Comes with brackets to hold radius arms and new handbrake sectors as these are invariably rusty. When using coil over springs slight body modifications may be required to wheel arches. A very well proven product since its conception and design in early 1997 but they would not fit the latest safety crash zone area floor/spare wheel pan. The change of design to fit the last cars was undertaken in AUG 2004 SO CHECK THE YEAR OF YOUR CAR AND THE TYPE YOU HAVE PURCHASED AS IT MIGHT BE OLD STOCK If your body shell was pre 1997 there is no problem.See CK18 shims for altering tracking "

Hi Hans!

yes it is the Midas of Michael.

He did not find the time for the restauration of this car. So he sold it me.

I think I´m the only proud owner of a Midas in Austria now.

Hi Roli,

The minispares rear subframe wouldn't be a bolt on job on a Midas. A Midas is around 2" narrower in rear-track, so that beam would need to be cut in half and made shorter/narrower, the mountings would also need to be altered too.

Thanks for your fasr and useful answer. I enjoy this forum very much because some of my burning questions are going to be answered.

Is there a shop which sells the Midas MKII rear subframe. Or do I have to repuild it on my own?

I think Hans has some drawings for a beam axle for the Mk1/2 Midas,

Maybe you could get someone local to make one up from the drawings.
