Hi,

I'm Mike I live just outside Peterborough. Having gone to school with Charlies youngest son I was introduced to Midas's at an early age and remeber being impressed the first time I saw Rose's Black Mk3 Coupe(then fairly new). I've been messing around with Midas's since I was 12 or 13 having taken a Saturday job working for Charlie and his eldest son at their then Mini / Metro specialist garage. It was always a treat to work on a Midas as opposed to the run of the mill Metros. I was always impressed how good the cars were when they were done compared to the state they arrived in which was often with cracked gel coat wrecked interiors and blown engines it's amazing what lots of late nights can do. My first kit car show was the last factory open day at Corby where Harold was effectively clearing shop. Fast forward a few years, a student loan and playing with many a Midas I finally got my own car thanks to a moment of impulse at Newark a bright blue (in places) basket case Bronze which I rebuit from the ground up with as many new parts as I could afford. I think the only original parts were the body, subframes, petrol tank, carpets and glass but I was rewarded with best in show a couple of years in a row. Having completed the rebuild of the Bronze I took pity on a Yellow convertible that Charlie had on his drive with 4 flat tyres and a lot of green slime that had been bought on impulse because he liked the colour so a few quid later it was mine and despite the grime it sailed through the MOT. Sadly I had to sell the Bronze when work shut down but I've had the convertible now for about 8 years and I'm slowly getting around to rebuilding it but as with most owners I'm trying to fit it in with my other restoration project weakness old Range Rovers. The missus will be pleased once it's done so she can drive it to work...and because the half stripped Metro donor will be off the drive!!!

Cheers,

Mike
