If I put my name down for one of these (and I appreciate that this is a "cart before the horse" course of action), would anyone else who's buying one be able to store it for me for an indefinite length of time? I would, of course, pay for it up front, but I don't have storage space for a windscreen at present, hence this request.

I'd also consider a heated rear screen. I had a stick-on one on the Bronze, but it didn't work very well. Have you got a price for that yet?

** not really. :D

I have about six screens in storage at the moment, so one more won't make any difference, so I'm happy to oblige! I think you are wise to stock up as I won't be doing these again and like Mk 3 body-shells they are not making them any more! Sorry no price as yet for the rear hatch as yet!

I noticed in the new magazine that Mini Marcos screens are £220, so ours at £230 is about right!

Thanks Alan. And if my plans do fall through (perish the thought), then at least there will be one more heated screen available for someone.

How soon will you be looking to collect hard cash? :D

I usually take a deposit to confirm the order and then take the balance of monies about two weeks before delivery, that way I can get the cheques cleared and our supplier paid! Although he is a perfect gentleman to deal with, he ordered extra last time, which I didn't know about, so I had to sell the extras as well! Last time the order was 30. This time we need 15, but only gave about 10 confirmed orders, so we need at least five more people before we can go ahead!

If you think that there were about a thousand Midas's produced and only thirty (plus maybe another 15 ) have heated front screens. then you have a very rare car!

Thank you for your support.

Alan

I could do without spending the cash (wedding next year) but if its the last time your thinking of doing this then put me down for a front heated :)

I'm probably selling one of my Bronze as a change in job means I cant store it anymore. I'm keeping my Mk1 so I may have a Mk2 for sale soon.

Sorry for the unrelated extra info just a flying visit .

Hi Graeme,

Your comments are noted!

One of the main reasons this won't happen again, is that it is going to be really hard work drumming up the numbers this time around. I'm going to leave it until next week and have a head count, to see if we can make the 15 orders! We are close, but not there as yet! Like all of these things people put off making the decision, then it is too late.

When we did our extended stub axle idea. I think I got about six or seven sets turned, but know as parts on cars deteriorate, I get phone calls and emails from people requesting them! But it costs me quite a bit of money to make a batch up. I have probably had requests for another 10 sets! I've moved on from this idea and am now trying to devise an adjustable rear subframe similar to David's but cheaper, for us poor people in CDS tubing. As I believe that the single biggest threat to the Mk 3's & 4's is the rusty rear subframe and they aint making them any-more!

Yes Face of Doa,

Welcome to the money pit!

But to justify it to myself, it's small beer, when you think how long your Midas will last, if the job is done correctly. Compared to buying a nearly new car and suffering the horrendous depreciation on newish cars. I would like to think I'm building am appreciating asset! Then there is always the fun factor, small boys waving and cheering, the stares with people thinking, what the f--- was that!!! I do occasionally get accosted by young ladies, which helps an ageing fat guys ego no end! Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!!

Alan, I remember that kind of thing from my first Midas, although I also remember a few derogatory comments too, and I also remember spending, if not a lot of money, then at least a lot of time, on that Bronze. Apart from 2 or 3 engine swaps, and frequent radius arm bush renewals, I think I spent the most time on the airblending heater and its associated remote blower fan, etc., etc. But I also averaged about 10,000 miles a year in it.

And I had mine for about 9 years, sold it around 1994, and a DVLA check shows its last road tax ran out in December 2008. Of course I don't know what happened between the two dates, I just like to believe it's been on the road for at least as long as I had it...

...and it's "Face of D'Oh!" actually. :D
Origins of the pseudonym can be explained on request. Although if someone doesn't recognise them, it's unlikely that they'd be interested. :D :D
