Thermostat housing

Postby lankyjames » Tue Mar 20, 2012 11:35 am

Another question from me,
What thermostat housing does everybody use? (on the a-series based midas)

I'm struggling to find a housing that does not angle upwards / to the passenger side, like the classic mini housing, but is 'flat' and points forwards.

I used to have an allegro type one with a plastic bung in the top, but the bung snapped, and I mistakenly replaced it with a metro 'sandwich' type, albeit without the sandwich, which unfortunately with an engine steady meant studs and original length bolts were too short, and sandwich plate length bolts are too long needing 1.5cm high standoffs/ spacers!

As always any help, much appreciated.

Hi,

I have the same setup on the Bronze and I used the Metro top thermostat housing with some stainless socket head bolts of the correct length which work a treat. I also used the metro bottom hose and header tank using the bracket from a Gold Mk3.

It makes it dead easy to fill and vent and is along the lines of how the twin point cooper Minis are piped up, they also use the Metro tank.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,
Can you elaborate on the right bolts that I would need in this setup, or would I need to inquire with a parts company for 'something that fits' ?

I'll have to get hold of AC Dodd to find out as I can't remember what they were he had a bunch of them more years ago than I care to admit!! ;) I have a feeling that mini spares do them so they are worth a look.

Hi
Mine's got CAM 6117 on the housing top? Forward facing with a vent pipe for the expansion tank.

If it's what your after, they have them listed on MRA Minis site for £11.64 inc vat.

Use 1.75in 5/16" UNC bolts for the midas with the metro thermostat housing.
