Is anyone using this forum any more?

Is there a new forum or is it just a case of people being too busy to come on here anymore?

Isn't this a general problem in the kitcar world? People are losing interest in mechanical stuff and are occupied by new digital hobbies. Midas has the added problem of being dormant so there's hardly any new blood appearing. Concerning technical issues most things have been said and done. The only action I see are people buying barn finds and restoring them and a few diehards that keep on developing new things for the Midas.

I guess I fit with most of those categories except for the lack of interest in mechanical things, which I love. There's a fair few people who dip in to the forums but don't say anything or at least very seldom, but it does not mean they are not used.

I check in fairly regularly, will answer questions where I can and so on. The car has been off the road for nearly two years now and I'm struggling for mojo.

I've decided to do a complete rebuild of my convertible as the missus has decided she wants it as her everyday car where as I'd built it more for hillclimbs and weekend B road bashing.. It's amazing that while I've been taking it apart of been thinking 'why didn't they design it this way?' or 'Could have used such and such from a different car'. I can see it becoming a real Frankenstein car of various manufacturers donor parts and new stuff of my own.

I'd love to see everyones ideas no matter how bizarre they think they are for moving the midas into the future as I've noticed metro stuff isn't getting more difficult to find.

Oh by the way Rich I find reading Practical Performance Car (previously Car and Car Conversions) is like automotive viagra for wanting to get in the workshop or out on the drive. I've lost interest in the kitcar mags after reading PPC as I find it more of a grease monkey magazine where everyone tries to do everything themselves and be as resourceful as possible. If you haven't read it I recommend giving it a try as it covers every genre

Devon, Somerset and Dorset sounds like my average day at work, If I get to Cornwall something has generally gone very wrong with my day! A mutually convenient pub sounds like an excellent idea.

I may not post very much in here, but I check the forum for new posts at least twice a day, more so if my first look of the day finds new threads or even new comments.
I also find myself using the site to search for technical info about whatever I happen to be doing to the car (or planning to be doing to it), but I don't have much time to spare for the Midas at present.

I may be in the background most of the time, but I'd certainly miss the forum if it suddenly disappeared!

As the founder of this forum I am always checking in on here and the spacebook site. Not so much of a poster, more of a reader..always happy to see what the next guy is doing to his Midas...still awaiting someone to do a serious engine transplant, whether it's a bike engine or a modern car engine. ;).

I don't post much, but I do read most of what's put one here. My Mk2 isn't on the road at the moment - too many hobbies, too may cars, but I can still find time to keep an eye on the forum.
