Midas on the road running costs

Postby manifold » Thu Dec 04, 2008 10:45 am

Just wondered if any body had actually compared the on the road running costs of a midas, compared to more modern cars. Is it a big secret that we keep to our selves or should we not be pushing this?

If I take away the cost of the 'mods' I have done to my cars they cost peanuts to run quite honestly. Cheap tax, cheap insurance, cheap parts, easy to maintain (generally), little rust, currently low purchase price.

Cheers,

David

On monday when I was finally registering my car to Finnish plates, I called round a few insurance companies for the mandatory (minimum) road insurance. They ranged from 550 € to 283 € per year.

I'd say the midas has a healthy appetite for petrol and oil, compared to my previous car. The Visa never needed any oil added during the 10 000 kilometers I drove and had a fuel consumption of 7l/100km. I must admit one does drive a bit more aggressively in a Midas compared to a Visa. Oil consumption is, as I've heard, nothing alarming in a BMC A-series engine.

If you get a good 1275, oil consumption is next to zero.

and if you get a bad 1380 it can be a pint every 250 miles!

On my 150,000 mile 1389 I recently changed my oil from 10W 40 to 20W 50 and the consumption has dropped from about 450 to 700 miles per pint

That should be 1380, of course. The 9 and the 0 are too close together on my keyboard
