CHOP SHOP....??

Postby gooseman » Mon Nov 02, 2009 8:49 pm

Does anyone else watch this TV program set in London where Leepu & Bernie modify all sorts of junky car remnants into "custom" vehicles???
I get it as an HD theater program and must say it is entertaining although the vehicles are mechanically questionable in functionality & purpose, jim

It has been on Discovery Channel since a year or 2 or so. First there was a series of shows based in Bangladesh, the second set of programs was in London. Basically I considered it to be quite horrific, but there were a few interesting cars. One was a Golf with an Impreza turbo 4wd drive system. The last show featured a Porsche 944 converted to a Ferrari style with American Muscle car elements. It sounds odd, but it looked quite impressive. If it would last I doubt. On many of these cars wheel spacers were used. If you do this in Holland you loose your insurance because wheel spacers cause big stress on the suspension parts.

Yes Wheeler Dealers can be very entertaining. Occasionally I get the feeling it's all fake, but still nice to see what they are doing and what the costs involved are. Recently they did a very nice Porsche 944 trackday car, a Spitfire, an Audi Quattro and last weekend a Bertone Ferrari GtB4 that can be bought under 10K pounds. It's great to see what you can do with a well equipped garage and a lot of elbow grease. also Wheeler Dealers can be found on the Discovery website

Yes HD Theater is a Discovery channel thats high def, watch it quite a bit, beautiful picture..very lifelike..lots of car & bike programs
CHOP SHOP, WHEELER DEALERS, CLASSIC CAR, CHASING CLASSIC CARS, GT RACER....these will be on back to back at times
GT Racer is a good one, going to vintage races at famous tracks ..fabulous cars...i love to see anything about the Mexican road race, La carrera panamericana...i have the PINK FLOYD tape watched it the other day
My favorite car in that race is the '53 Studebaker coupes...been interested in one thats on ebay recently...just havent taken the leap.
I love the wheel spacers Leepu made in Bangladesh    you know the vehicle was on the verge of a violent wobble any second...jim

I would personally take any of Ed Chinas Mini restoration tips with a pinch of salt. They "restored" a Mini in an old series, where Eddy boy changed HALF an A panel .
Well i wasn't disappointed ...They really blinged up the engine bay with some new HT leads and a "shiny new " cover for the coil......Then a "top class body restoration " using a Big sticker...Pity help the poor sod who bought it when he has to do any body repairs... when was the last time you saw a set of new 12" wheels and tyres cost £200.
I've just been having a look on Mini Spares and I've come to the conclusion that he must get his parts at mates rates. Wheels and tyres £320, recon radius arm £40, pair of Cobra seats with frames £400. I've just about blown the budget already with the £650 for the wrapping paper and £700 for the car, never mind the engine bling, centre clocks, bonnet stripes, roof decal, rear seat cover, door cards, etc etc.
This series is going well down hill like the time when with his barn find Beetle managed to turn it in to a Beach buggy with a totally different Reg??????
A quality show indeed

Last nights show was about a Lancia Delta Integrale & i thought Ed did some of his best work on it, the car looked good also as he actually buffed & polished it.
Ive seen him do some jobs where he seemed to ignore things that needed doing but perhaps he wasnt inspired to go further for some reason :?:
I keep wondering "how tall is Ed?"....must be around 6'5"?? this can be a hindrance in tight spaces...jim
