Powder Coating Kit

Postby Rich » Wed Nov 25, 2009 6:10 pm

This year my Christmas present to myself was a powder coating machine from these guys http://www.electrostaticmagic.co.uk/, I saw them at the shows last year and again I stood and watched while he coated some steel plate on the stand on Saturday.

I'd been holding off buying one as I seemed to be doing ok with spray paints on the metal bits of the Midas while I rebuilt it, I wish I hadn't waited now as the finish you get with this gear is excellent. My first little project was the painted alloy rocker cover which seems to shed paint like there's no tomorrow, the results are near professional in appearance and the coating certainly seems tough.

On first impressions I'd recommend one of these to anyone needing to coat clean metal reliably.

Rich,
When painting your alloy rocker cover did you use etch primer?

Hi Geoff

Not when I used paint, I was painting over the existing finish. The powder coating requires a bare metal finish to start with.

I'll stick a pic up of the rocker cover if the weather holds off tomorrow.

As requested, this is a textured black finish and I really like it. The imperfections you can see on the surface are water droplets I forgot to brush off before taking the pictures.
