Moffat Classic Car Rally 2010

Postby skip_rat » Tue Jun 22, 2010 9:49 am

This is on this coming weekend 26th June.

I was thinking of going this year and have an entry for the Saturday. Does anyone from the forum still go to this?

Alan,
It will be good to catch up.
PS can you bring a multi-meter please.
I took the dash out to try to fix a problem that has been on my list since I bought the car. The Fuel gauge reads low even when the tank is full, and the temperature gauge does not read at all. I had changed the temperature sensor, and had the sender in the fuel tank checked (even bent the float arm) but no joy. I noticed on the forum that the voltage stabiliser on the back of the dash might be the problem. When I took it out I could not see a Voltage Stabiliser, the dash is from a 1987 Rover 216, so it is different from the Metro one.
The problem I have now is that the wipers will not work! (Not because of the taking the dash out, the problem started before I took the dash out).
I think a wire is disconnected, but the wiring loom around the dash and wiper controls etc. is not the Metro one, so I do not have a wiring diagram, I will just have to use a meter to check things out, and mine is goosed, the battery leaked, and I had to bin the whole unit.

I will have to do a quick tidy up to get ready for Moffat, the dash is in but the covers still have to go back (after fixing the wipers).

Regards
Victor

I have the rover 216 dash as well and the fuel gauge works fine. But it apparently only works when a resistance is soldered in between 2 wires. Without it the dash gauge won't go above 1/4 with a full tank.

Hans,
That sound interesting, do you know what value of resistor, and where to connect it.

I have exactly that problem that a full tank will only show as 1/4 full.

Thanks,
Victor
