3 or 4 cylinders ?

Can't you just slot this subframe in?

No it will be 4 pot, I need to clear that car out of the yard, so need to remove all relevant bits and get rid of the shell. I will try the 3 pot in my other Mk1 before I cut out the headlights. But the challenge is moving shells from one end of the yard to the other, as I am just on my own. But I will find a way when the time comes.

Can anyone tell me, did the Mk1 have a factory made dashboard or did the early owners improvise?

That is the dash in my car, D010000
The door cards are different though.

Thanks again Stuart,
That is just like the dash in my first Mk1, but this mk1 is nothing like that and it has bits missing. This car has been built from a Mini 1275 GT and he has used the Triple instrument display from that car. I understand now thanks to your pictures.

The triple instruments should fit in the standard Mk1 dash or at least the ones I've seen all tend to have it.

Alistair is worth asking as he has at least one Mk1 in front of the workshop.

Yes it all looks a bit sad and I'm sure there should have been a centre counsel, note the unusual heater.

Simpler than the original and eyeball vents as windscreen demisters, if I remember correctly the original mk1 had no fresh air heater intake at all.
