Tires

Postby M.Ouvinen » Thu Jan 15, 2009 8:41 pm

I've got a problem with winter tyres. The ones I have are from the 80's, and they're knackered. I had a puncture the other day and the guy from the tyre shop said it's beyond repair. I know the other three are bad too, they have inner tubes in them, and the guy who put them on the rims said back then, that he cannot guarantee that they're entirely safe or will last the winter.

I'm having trouble finding replacements. I found a set of 145/75/R12 studded tyres, but I fear they're too tall. They should be 60/65 profile, am I right?

Hello.

I would check the calculator out here to see what your rolling radius is:

145/75x12 work out to be almost the same size as 155/70x12 so they'll be just fine!

Studded tires are usally larger in diameter than stated.

Anyway, my mechanic found some 135/75/12" tyres from Germany, 39,90€ a piece including freight. And my friend's dad has a tyre shop, so he can put them on for a bottle of whiskey. Shouldn't be too expensive, and I wouldn't want a puncture in high speeds due to driving a set of 80's tyres. ;)
