Someone seems to have removed the front of the glove compartment though - wasn't it big enough?

David - I have modified the glove box. Mine never had a cover, just a narrow perspex lip to stop things falling out. Having put the standard dash in and out of the car a couple of times I decided a removable glove box would make life a lot easier, so I cut out the GRP moulding and made up an aluminium version that inserts from the front. At the moment it only has the black frame; it might get a door one day if time and motivation permits. The removable glove box means that there is good access for connecting windscreen and fresh air vents, radio wiring etc. Makes life a whole lot easier.
Similarly, the modified Metro instrument pod now also goes in from the front. Also, the heater controls, fan switch and heated front screen switch are all on a panel fixed to the heater so none of that lot is affected by dash removal. I hate to think how much time has gone in to this, but I'm quite pleased with the overall effect.

It's a long time ago now, but I thought that the Metro instrument pod went in from the front anyway, once the dash was in place?

I've got the Rover 200 setup in my Gold Coupe and basically nothing gievs any accurate info other than perhaps the rev counter. I was thinking about having a hunt round for a Metro dash although I do have a pair of spare digi ones I could use but they would look a bit lost.

The Rover speedo in my Gold was pretty accurate, but when that engine and gearbox was re-homed in my Bronze, now with 12" wheels and Metro instruments, it was not surprisingly hopelessly inaccurate. Thats' what prompted the instrument upgrade. The beauty of the VDO speedo is it can be re-calibrated from the front. It's dead easy to set up in the first place, and change should I run different tyre or wheel sizes.

I've got the 200 dash and having checked the rev counter during the MOT, that's out too! It under reads so I'm assuming it's to do with the voltage stabilizer as the 4 pot pulses should be the same. Not only that but it's a pig to get at anything my front piece being a single glass fibre moulding.

it's always a pig trying to get anything in your front piece.
