Hi Chad,

The original stainless steel single box system was a custom part for the Midas, a little noisy when the sound absorbent material got dirty.

Here's a thread that should be of interest viewtopic.php?f=53&t=2464&hilit=+exhaust

Dampers and springs have been discussed quite a bit on the forum, here's an early thread viewtopic.php?f=52&t=9&hilit=dampers

I'll try and find any missing photos.

The rear beam is made from very thin steel and rots between it and the body, if I were you I'd take it off to assess, it can be rotten and yet be in really good condition on the side you can see.

I was watching the car on ebay, certainly a very interesting one and remarkably complete from what you've said. I hope you can get it on the road as quickly as you originally thought.

Here's a photo of the currently supplied Midas spec GAZ damper next to a shortened AVO one.

Here's an option with perhaps a run-flat spring of just 4lb/in

Chad re the rear shocks I would definitely recommend contacting GAZ - I sent them an email and they put me in touch with their tech department. They will ask for various info - see below

1 Intermal dia of the spring 1.9” ?
2 free length of the spring (uncompressed )
3 IS THE DAMPER LENGTH MEASURED CENTRE OF END FITTING TO CENTRE OF END FITTING ?
4 Bolt size of bottom bush ( 3/8” ) ?
5 Width of lower bush inner sleeve
6 Pic of top mount rubbers .(there are 2 types )

But once given all their appropriate info they came up with these beauties a few weeks later - and they were cheaper than expected. Just got to build the car now...

I normally recommend GAZ for rear dampers and suggest talking to Dave at Dampertech, rather than GAZ direct. Dave has been supplying Midas cars with dampers and springs since the year dot and is a mine of knowledge.
The only weakness with the GAZ damper is that the plating on the screw thread is rather thin and can start to develop rust spots. I've discussed this with Dave and GAZ, but they say that they cannot make the plating thicker and ensure the clearances on the screw thread. I now spray the screw thread area with a protection wax (e.g. waxoyl) once I have set the ride height.

It was Dave at Dampertech who I spoke to when put on to him by GAZ. Absolutely brilliant guy who really knows his stuff.

But not with the springs from mini sport, i used some sorter version which i got from ebay.
