Bronze engine spec required

Postby bronze1380 » Sun Jul 18, 2010 11:31 am

I have an avonbar 1380 engine.
Does anyone know if they were built for the midas and what the spec is?
I phoned avonbar and got the village idiot who was less than helpful.
If in doubt...

If you take a look at the factory brochures in the archive on Colin's site, you'll see that Midas never offered a 1.4 engine for the Bronze. But they did offer a 1.4 and 1.4S from Avonbar for the Gold models (resp. 90 and 102bhp). More info was not offered by Midas on these engines.
I always thought they were 1340cc engines, but I can be wrong.

Hi Hans.
It's definatly a 1380cc A series engine.
The engine number matches with the logbook and the paperwork i have with the car.
Just need the engine spec which i don't have.
If in doubt...

We could make a guess at the spec if you like? as Hans says the Avonbar 1380 option only came about for the mk3 Midas, it was to reduce the gap in performance between the heavier mk3 and the lighter mk2, a 1380 mk3 is similar in performance to a 1275 mk2.

It really makes no difference if it was supplied direct from Midas or Avonbar, Midas cars just used one of the standard 1380 spec engines, usually with the 266 and 3.1 final drive.

I have an Avonbar catalogue from the time, Kent 266 or 276 cam, Omega or Powermax pistons, two head specs.

What exactly are you looking for? and why? Avonbar you would think will have records of engine numbers and spec.
