Front shocks

Postby PerS » Thu Oct 18, 2012 4:28 pm

Hi All,

I´m in the search for new shock absorbers for the front.
With no success I´ve tried to order at various establishments here in Sweden, but with no result.

Would it be possible to fit shocks for MGF´s?
I guess the one´s for MG TF with coilovers is overdoing it.

I bought the original Spax dampers. Went to the Spax website, found the s/n for Midas dampers, and checked several webshops that are linked to the Spax site. I forgot where I bought them, but can find the invoice if you want. Paid via Paypal and one week later got my dampers.
Not sure if the MGF ones fit.

I had mine made up by Protech, the dimensions are in the Convertible tech section under Rear Coilover Dimensions. For some bizarre reason I can't link to the post for convenience as every post has the same URL for me.

I knew there would be some witchcraft David.

Just as a note, the standard rear coilovers don't use a 12mm bolt, neither do mine any more...

Thanks Hans and Rich,
The Protechs look really nice.
I´m trying to run the Midas as a daily driver and I´m hoping to take advantage of other models as the Classic Mini or for that matter the MGF, for parts. The Metro was not sold new in Sweden so parts are not available as in other Countries.
If the bottom mount of the front shock has a 3/8th of an inch in diameter this info is really important for me, thanks.

Any other info is surely welcome!

Per,
I paid 174,53 euro for 2 spax dampers and shipment to the Netherlands. I bought them at Silverstone Tuning ltd, p/n for the Metro Challenge F damper is G716.

Hans,
That is not too bad.
And they were adjustable as well?

yes:

This one has more settings than the original spax damper, so I have to find out what's the best. Usually these knobs corrode solid within a year.

Hans,
Nice photo!
I guess you can spray the knop and surroundings with a wax, as you do on yachts, to keep them from rusting.
