what a difference - rolling road tune today

treated Ruby to a session on minispeed rolling road today - wow - what a difference - ignition timing reset and change of needle and mixture set and the difference in smoothness and pick up is dramatic - Ruby has (as far as we know) a standard 1275 engine with LCB exhaust and a recent unleaded cylinder head and on the rolling road peak power was measured as (flywheel) 72bhp and peak torque 75lbft at 3677 rpm ,

best money we have spent so far on Ruby - well done to Russell who built (rebuilt ) Ruby.

I note on web that claimed bhp for original MG Metro was 73BHP so Ruby sounds to be doing well - thanks Russell

Always money well spent. The finishing touch, carb tuning is almost a lost art these days though.

Aha! Byfleet :) Next time I'm up there (hopefully in the Midas) I'll see about getting it done. Thanks for the link, as you rightly say nowadays it's kids tapping on a PC to tune a car. Doesn't really work on an A-series

Have had both the midas and mini road test and tuned by a local classic car and carb specialist (his front office is lined with carbs!) With very surprising results.

Unfortunately doesn't have a rolling road so unknown power outputs.

The mini didn't go past 40mph and the midas was running lean, now the mini is the fastest 998cc I've ever driven and it just pulls so well the midas can't stop spinning its wheels!

I'd love to get it to a dyno day just to see what the outcome of efforts is after the engine was rebuilt to a 1330cc overbore, track cam, big valve and ported head, lightweight flywheel.....

cost was £70 + vat for the rolling road tune (1 hour) and the needle for the SU was about £10 - total cost just over £90 and wish I had done it sooner - nice people and great result (workshop 100% minis other than one porsche )
