instrument issues - how to test them and fuel + temp senders

Postby paulr » Tue Jun 29, 2010 10:21 pm

still trying to get through job list !

ran out of petrol on way to wedding - oops - knew fuel gauge and temp gauge not working but had miscalculated fuel used (lost - following recent fuel pipe leak) - want to sort guages and have removed dash (what a game!) - bought and fitted new voltage stabiliser and had hoped all would now work - sadly not so far!

temp gauge moves - a bit (only running in garage so didn't run for long but hopefully this means gauge is ok and sender too- fuel gauge not the slightest movement - have found fuel sender unit and seems to be connected ok - can someone tell me please how to check it is sending - same for temp sender - was wondering if there is a quick straightforward way to test each to identify whether fault is with sender(s) or gauges ,

thanks all

There's a guy over on the 16v Mini forum that is making individual LED temp and fuel gauges that might be worth a look in the future.
