Rear Coilover spec

Postby Rich » Sun May 20, 2012 12:05 am

For once this isn't a question wanting to know about specs.

As some of you may know I jumped on the back of a group buy organised on the Turbo Minis forum for Protech units. The dimensions I specified came from some kind soul on here measuring a set of AVO or SPAX units for me.

What I ended up with was the following;

400 series.
14.5" open length, 2 1/4" spring seats, M27 upper mount, Bottom mount is 32mm bonded bush with 12mm hole diameter.

The lower mount has a larger than standard hole diameter, you can spec whatever size you want. I'm running 100lb springs which I find plenty firm enough without bouncing off the bump stops.

The fronts are obviously easier to get off the shelf and measured up as;

13" open length, M27 upper mount and bottom mount is 3/8th hole diameter.

Hope that's of some use to somebody.

Yes these are the rear ones. Just choose the options Rich lists above. I'm sure he'll be along to tell you about his front dampers shortly.

Having said that, he does say what the fronts consisted of, these will look similar to the mini rear dampers, only shorter.

13" open length, M27 upper mount and bottom mount is 3/8th hole diameter.

Mini ones for what they'll look similar to http://www.protechshocks.co.uk/products ... ar-package

As Stuart say the rear units are the first ones listed in my post, the second set of specs is for the front.

However, you won't want a 12mm hole in the bottom bearing, just spec it to what you have on your car. If I were doing it again I'd get the spherical bearing option as it's considerably narrower than the bushed option which is a little awkward on some of the coilover mounts in use, I had to widen mine to make them fit.
