How about a bit of carbon with your Midas?

Postby manifold » Thu Dec 04, 2008 1:25 pm

Want to make your car go a bit quicker? Let the suspension react a bit better or give your A series a bit less to pull?

Why not strip out some of the crap and put in some carbon instead? Not to everyones taste, but depends on what you are after.

I saved about 50 kilos removing the seats alone. Thats equal to a small person.

Some nice carbon door cards and back panel would be nice........... and give the car the more modern touch it deserves.

Topped off with a carbon wheel.

A bit extravant but very trick.

The packaging (envelope) weighed more than the wheel.

Hi,
Those seats look great! Where did you get them from and how much are they? Also, are they lower than the original Midas seats? Any difference in cabin noice with no soft material absorbing the din?

Regards
Olof

Hello Olof,

Glad you like them. I got them from Tillet. These seats are the Tillet B5 which fit in the Midas excellently, assuming you've not got a huge rear ;).

There is some nominal black suede leather padding in the seats for your headrest and in the seat and in the back back. They are not cheap mind you at £327+VAT. I gave Tillet a call and managed to negotiate a set with Steve for a bit less money as they were set up to suit a special Lotus Elise in South Africa which got written off before the seats were shipped.

They weigh about 5kg each and are double skinned. A lot less than the seats I took out which weighed about 30kg each! So I did notice a difference in performance especially with car coming on cam sooner.

Here is a link:

I wish I could afford to buy some for the convertible too..... My convertible uses flint grey TVR 'S' leather seats which I bought direct from TVR when they still existed as a going concern which also fit well in both Coupe and Convertible very well but are heavier.

Cheers,

David

Hello David,
Thanks for the information and the link. I had sort of decided not to put any more money in the Midas this year (I've got several other projects), but these seats really do look tempting. Will try and check out if I can fit though. Beeing close to 2 meters tall is a challenge when driving British specialist cars...

All the best

No probs Olof,

If you fit in your car now with your existing seats, you definitely will with these seats. They fit low to the floor. I actually fitted mine onto runners on top of 2 inch stainless steel box section to bring the seat height up. Every inch counts in the mk3 coupe.....
