The Classic Motor Show 8-10 November 2019

The last event of the year is the Classic Motor Show at the NEC. Once again the club has taken a stand and will be showing a small selection of members' cars.

If you are interested in helping out on the stand then please contact Tony Moss via events@midasownersclub.co.uk - remember all stand helpers get free entry to the show, plenty of free time to look around and lunch provided by the club. You just need to keep an eye on the stand for part of the show, answer visitor's questions about the cars and wake Tony up from time to time.

If that isn't your cup of tea, but you still want to visit the show, then you can buy tickets from https://classicmotorshow.seetickets.com ... et-options -the code for discounted tickets was given in the last newsletter.

There seemed to be even more visitors this year, with Saturday being particularly busy. We were kept busy throughout the show with plenty of visitors and with fixing Tony's car that had sprung a leak and boiled over just as it arrived - note to all Mk3 owners if you fit a new alternator drive belt make sure it is the correct one and not so long that the alternator fan is rubbing against the top hose.

We must be getting experienced at doing these show as carpeting the stand and erecting the backdrop all went smoothly and apart from Tony's steaming arrival the cars were all parked up early on Thursday. Our stand was slightly smaller than previously which made it seem rather cramped, but we still managed four cars spanning Mks 1 to 4.

The show itself is huge, spanning seven halls and visited by over 70000 visitors each year. There is a lot to see in one day, but most of the stand helpers chose to help out over two or three days thereby allowing them to take in all the show in smaller chunks.

The club has applied for the Practical Classics Restoration show next March, which is a slightly smaller, but no less busy. If you fancy visiting then perhaps you should consider helping out the club, remember you get free admission and lunch provided.

I was able to visit the show and the Midas stand on the Friday.

Congratulations to all involved in setting up and manning the stand - excellent job.

Just a thought.
If we put the individual information boards, which are presently on floor mounted frames, on the windscreen, where the top trumps cards were this year, then punters will have to come further into the stand and be more approachable. A number that I spoke to were surprised that some of the models are still available. Many comments that the mk1 and 2 body shapes do not look dated.
