Just looked at the one on the GTM, the alloy section in the middle should be centralised between the rubbers, so no, yours doesn't look too clever.

Does explain 1 of the many clonking noises I hear on a daily basis

Anyone got a spare in any condition?
Worse case scenario I can use it as a pattern

New mounts are rather rare and over a hundred quid !!!!

So until i get round to fabricating a new one I've bodged it by jacking it up and trashing a piece of hard 8mm thick rubber that's super glued to a piece of 3mm ally filed to a taper into the void, hopefully it will hold out.

Actually on some forums I've read regarding this recently this would be considered an upgrade? :D

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-METRO-3-DOOR-1990-1998-1-1L-GEARBOX-MOUNT-/171091000092?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27d5d17b1c

That should be the one, I've used this supplier before and they are good, but call them first and just confirm it's the upper mount.
