NEWBIE/AXLE

Postby centredonkey » Wed Nov 12, 2014 7:22 pm

Hi, Folks

newly joined up as I have just rescued a factory built Bronze from it's 9 year spell languishing outside in the salty sea air of the south Dorset coast.

It will become my 18 year old son's first classic type car, although I'm thinking Dad will be doing most of the work! :D

We are well versed in Mini's and Spridgets, A series engines etc, the only thing concerning me about the re-build is the rear beam axle. It's shot to bits, rear wheels hanging on at strange angles, plainly for the bin.

What, if any routes are there for replacement, either new or second hand?

Alan D on the forum has made a huge effort to come up with a replacement subframe. I don't know if these have progressed since this photo was taken.

Don't know if it's of any interest to you but I have a Huddersfield Mini's rear beam sat around that's never been used. PM me if you want more info

My brother and I developed a beam replacement from an existing design for my Mk2 a couple of years ago. We made a batch of 5 which all sold through this forum. Mine went in with no problems and I have not had any negative feedback from anyone so I assume they were happy. We could do another batch if a few people got together. Here's a link to some pics:

Hi, Folks
back again, now that the workshop is finished are restoration underway.
As suspected, the rear axle is a little frayed!
Does any one have a tech drawing or basic dimensions to enable me to make a new one?
