door hinge thread

Postby Jin » Sun Dec 28, 2014 10:41 am

Hey up guys
Hope your all having a good christmas break?
I've decided to spend some time with a loved
one,
The midas
Wishing id spent it in the house watching rubbish on the telly cos its beconing a bit of a mare.
Silly me for thinking adjusting the hinges and inner frame would take a few hours. I started christmas eve...
Anyway what size is thr hinge thread welded to the hinge that passes through the shell?
I've probably worn the threads out due to having to remove the doors 20 odd times ( no kidding)
Cheers folks

Either m8 or 5/16 unf. Why not grind the welds off and fit new bolts?

Cheers mate the bolts are actually ok and I really don't want any extra jobs is there a chance they could be metric fine? I've tried m8 and unf without sucsess and I've lost one of the originals.
Any ideas?

I've got one here, and a metric thread gauge. The threads don't appear to be metric which is a bit of a pain. I'll be replacing them with metrics in that case.

The originals should be 5/16" UNF. So if you have something different (BSF, or whatever) it will be because somebody has already ground off the original screws and replaced them.
I don't know why the design hasn't ever been updated to Metric. I'm still slowly working my way through the stock I inherited in 2004 and they are UNF.
Maybe sometime in the future I'll need to buy some more and then get them made in Metric.
