5-speed gearbox fitting

Postby jonevansmidas » Tue Aug 25, 2009 10:27 pm

I am in the process of fitting a Minisport (I think) 5-speed box to my Gold Convertible. Gear selection is stiff, not helped by a dragging clutch!! Does anybody know if a mod to the gear selector baseplate is required, and if so, what the mod is.
I suspect a mod is needed to allow 5th gear to be selected cleanly.

Have you modified your clutch pedal? The standard Metro pedal will cause problems like you mentioned, because it does not have enough throw in a Midas. You need to shorten or bend it. There is a good thread on the Yahoo forum about it.

I seem to remember that there is some kind of modification to the base plate on some of the 5 speed conversions.
Something along the lines of adjusting the plate that stops the reverse mechanism. Might be to grind some metal away and/or bend it slightly.

I saw a photo of this in a mag once.

I can remember if it was the minispares one, or the minisport one.

Turn it upside down and screw it back on again to test it.....but dont select reverse!

I havent fitted my KAD 5 speed dog box yet, so I dont know what impact the reverse restrictor plate will have on me too.

Cheers,
