am struggling to get the heater on my mk3 coupe to work - checked thermostat at weekend - seems fine - but daft question is - can it only go in one way up - have put it all back together and drove car at weekend and other than heater still not blowing any warm air (cold yes but warm even luke warm - no ) car seems fine - water temperature stays at low side when running but rises if left at tickover in garage (was cold at the weekend and perhaps I should blank off some of the rad) before I dismantle thermo housing again be glad if anyone can confirm that thermostat only goes in one way up ?

also - any foolproof ways to bleed cooling system - especially heater - as having had heater matrix out and flushed it (seems was fine) can only guess that lack of warm let alone hot air from heater must be air lock in it - thanks all

Paul

I don't think many people get much heat out of their mk3 cars. I fitted a bleed valve to the top hose from the heater, I'll see if I can find the Ebay link.

It could be that the expansion tank is sitting too low. I bleed my system, but air accumulates in the hose that goes from the head of the engine to the heater since it i the highest point in the system. So within a few drives the heater stops working. I need that bleed valve as well, but also need to put my expansion tank higher, so it collects the air in the system. At
