JEH 448V , chassis number D010000 is now back in business. I have just driven it the 120 or so miles from Yorkshire to Birmingham with no significant problems. The bodywork is still as shiny as it was 30 years ago when my wife (now ex.) and I drove it up to Harrogate to swap it for a Fiat 127. It is now keeping company my Excelsior, the last car out of the Redditch factory

That's a superb bit of Midas history in one driveway there. Hopefully we'll get to see it at a show or two sometime too!

Its good to know that another MK1/MK2 now resides in the West Midlands and a nice story that it is reunited with its former owner.

There will be some pictures soon. I got home with it on Wednesday evening about 7.30 and left the house Thursday at about 11a.m. for a walking weekend in Yorkshire. Only got back a few hours ago. The car was in the "for sale " section of this very forum a few weeks ago, but I had to sell the Quantum H4 first and then wait for Terry to get back from his holiday

The bonnet and screen were covered in fine red overspray spots which have now been tcut and polished away. The gel coat is still very shiny except where there is physical damage. A few little gouges on the bonnet and it looks as though the surfaces in front of the headlights have been used for storage at some point. The car had been off the road from August 2000 till May this year. The starter has stopped working, whirrs away but does not engage and the alternator does not appear to be charging( voltmeter fitted) The Mistral wheels will need blasting and recoating at some point. Mechanically, all seems fine. It ran cool coming back from Leeds, oil pressure is very good and the gearbox still has synchromesh on all 4 gears.

Forgot to mention, the fuel gauge is not working either. Despite these minor irritations, I am planning on blasting it up Prescott hill climb for the classic car event on May 14th. Entry form will be in the post tomorrow.

Starter motor removed, cleaned and replaced. Bit of a struggle getting it out and back, but no blood drawn.
I think the voltmeter is not reading across the battery, but somewhere else in the circuit. Alternator is OK

After nearly 3 years and only 1271 miles, JEH448V has moved on again, back to a another former keeper again. Andy Harris, who runs Acespeed Historic Motorsport, bought the car from the dealer who we sold it to in the 1980's and has now bought it back after seeing it at the Classic Restoration Show this year. That was its 3rd appearance at the NEC, so has hardly been completely dormant in my ownership.
It has also been to Castle Coombe and Prescott Classic hill climb.
It will soon be replaced on the drive with a mk 4 coupe, a much more civilised animal.
