Can anyone say if carpeting on the doors was a factory option? I ask because the carpet fits neatly and is bound all around the edges. However, in my opinion, it looks bloody awful, is bulky and also retains condensation that runs down the inside of the windows causing some rot to the frame.

I'd like to remove it but don't know what mess I'll find underneath. If I can get the glue off would the unlined, bare door look OK or would I need to replace the carpet with something else? If the latter, what would you suggest? Does anyone have any pics showing alternatives? What would be the best substance from removing the glue? So many questions - hopefully someone can help.

Carpet wasn't standard, I think the soft trim cars did have some cloth on the doors though. Is yours a soft trim one with central vents above the radio? or is it just plain hard GRP on the dash and doors?

You can see the cloth on this page.

Hi Stuart,

Mine has the hard finish. There's a wider view above. It's not unlike the one you linked to but the carpet on mine seems thicker. How do you think the hard GRP would look on the doors, assuming I can get the glue off?

Sorry for the late reply Bruce, I guess there are glitches with the forum.

Yours is the soft trim version with leathercloth glued to plain grp panels, which are different from the hard panels moulded to look like leathercloth.

Tony I believe would have added the carpet.

Thanks for clearing that up Stuart. It doesn’t feel particularly soft! Can I ask who Tony is? The carpet looks OK when it’s in good nick and properly stuck down so I’ll maybe persevere with it for the time being.

Tony was the owner a few years ago who did quite a bit of work recommissioning the car.

Are you on Facebook? best bet would be to tag Tony's Mrs Rachel in this post, or make a new post there. https://www.facebook.com/groups/midasca ... 921537265/
