Indicator repeater lamps for a Mk 3

Postby DavidL » Sun Apr 29, 2012 11:40 am

I want to fit indicator repeaters to my front wings, but don't want anything too big or angular. I'm thinking something either oval, or rectangular with soft/rounded corners, but I'm not sure yet what to go for. I'm just looking for ideas - and preferably some photos of what other folk have fitted.

Any and all suggestions welcome!

(...and if they're available for less than £5 a side, so much the better...)

Serge van Geffen used to install such repeaters on his car. He had a black coupe but I don't have a good pic of it. But they are clearly visible on his old convertible:

I have to ask him from which car they came. It was Ford or Mercedes.

Thanks Hans. I'm going to seem very picky here - they look slightly too big for my liking!

Also, I forgot to say, I prefer my indicators to be amber when unlit. I've never liked white lenses on indicators; I don't think they are as obvious when in use as amber ones, and I'm convinced the widespread use of white (or clear) indicator lenses nowadays is a "fashion" thing.

Am I the only person who thinks this? Or am I just being a grumpy old codger? (I'm only 57 :D )

Orange is in keeping with your's and the car's era :)

Some of the smallest

I'm sure they'll look orange with orange bulbs fitted http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clear-Fiat-Se ... 4a93a0c8c0

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-CINQUECE ... _870wt_754

but all orange must be available fitted much nearer the door similar to the Fiat.

Edit, just seen you don't want round ones, how about some Mini ones.

Oi! I resemble that remark! :D However, I suppose I asked for it...

Actually not averse to round ones, "round" is, I think, a particular case of "oval". It's large or angular (ie, no sharp corners) I'm not keen on.

I personally wouldn't mind getting rid of all orange parts to modernize the look of the car. But if you want something small, I have small amber ones:

I think these were supplied by GTM. I like the position as well, better than those placed on the front fender.

Those look very similar to the ones I fitted to my Mk 2; I think they may have been from an early Ford Fiesta. I'd remembered using them but thought they might not look as good as others I'd seen on the Mk 3. However, they don't look too bad there.

(edit) Possibly like these...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SIDE-REPEATER-LAMP-AMBER-FORD-ESCORT-SIERRA-FIESTA-GRANADA-P100-/320896638372?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ab6ee1da4
or these... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Fiesta-3-89-93-Side-Repeaters-Amber-/290683248108?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43ae125dec
(although why you need amber bulbs behind amber lenses is a mystery to me)

Whats wrong with the late classic rover mini ones? They are square....and its what I used in my Convertible. They do them in white or orange.

Same as used on some of the range rovers too......

I'd go for those if they weren't clear! I'll have a hunt to see if there's an amber version on eBay though.

And here they are, and cheaper, too. :D

And just for the record, I don't like "Lexus style" chromed plastic rear light units, either... :D
