Time has come for a repaint, can't afford a professional spray job, don't own a garage, so I'm going to try the Rustoleum route.
I've decided on BRG for the bodywork (Ral 6005) and Jet Black for the hard top (there is UV damage in the gel coat).
So far I've painted the front bumper, and am well pleased with the results.
The texture when cured is slightly orange peal, but no worse than a regular spray job.
It's good thick paint as in It's very opaque, only one coat so far, no drips or runs, and a lovely finish.
In future (bonnet, boot, back bumper and doors) I'll paint in a heated room as this paint was still tacky 3 days later (it was close to zero outside and the room is unheated). That's why there is dust in the paint, which I'm not worried about - I'll flat it out before the next coat.
Anyway, first photos of my newly painted bumper!
