Mirrors

Postby MrBounce » Sun Mar 31, 2013 5:47 pm

Ladies & Gents I need a suggestion or two for some replacement mirrors. I know the Mk1 has Renault 14 door mirrors (or just one in my case) but mine is shot and the chances of finding another pair for reasonable money are between slim and none - and slim has left town.

Most modern-ish mirrors are enormous by comparison. I would rather not buy a couple of standard bullet mirrors if I can avoid it but I may have to if there's nothing else available. Just FYI I don't like the ones on either Ford Kas or Fiat Cinquecentos... :?

A few breaker yards here might have Renault 14 mirrors. I once arranged a mirror for another Midas owner, but I forgot how much it was including postage.

I'm looking at alternative mirrors myself. I have some after-market ones currently but am looking to find something in a scrappy that hopefully will suit the Mk2 I'll let you know what I get. Hopefully I'll have some on by Stoneleigh

My Renault 14 mirrors are still usable, but after finding a Metro heater motor in a scrappy I was thinking about fitting a pair of electric mirrors off an MGF, since they can be heated, and this Metro was sitting alongside a row of MGFs.

However, whether they could be made to fit tidily or not is another matter - or rather, whether I could fit them tidily, or not. On eBay, it seems to be possible to buy a pair for around £25 - £35.

Many thanks for your swift replies!

Yes David, I have been thinking about MGF mirrors myself - not sure they are right but they're cheap enough and could work. They're first on my list.

Hans, last time I saw a Renault 14 mirror was from a French seller on ebay and it was £35 plus postage - not really worth it in my eyes. But many thanks for thinking of me!

Kelvin let me know what you have gone for - I would be interested to see what you find on your scrapyard search.

I have a pair of Milenco mirrors left over from when I had a caravan, I've always thought that with a little bit of engineering they could replace the Renault mirrors on my mk3 coupe if needed. You can bet that no one else would have a pair like them.

I was thinking of fitting some Daewoo Matiz mirrors to the convertible but it looks like the mk1 fitment lends itself to something more faired in.

You REALLY need to get wider wheels on that car. :)
