Dashboard Query

Postby stevew » Wed Dec 11, 2013 7:58 am

Can anyone help me please - I've seen this type of dashboard in a number of Mk2 & 3s and would like to know where it comes from? Hopefully from a donor car as I'd like to fit one to my Mk3 Coupe.

All dashboards are specific Midas design where the donor pod fits in. The dashboard is laminated in and therefore an important part of the structure of the car. It enhances the torsional rigidity. All MK2 moulds are missing, so if you want it, you'll have to build it from scratch.

Steve. That's a Mk2 dash with Metro Instrument binnacle, these do vary with the various different facelifts of the Metro. The dash is simply held in place with 4 small bolts/screws and not bonded in at all.(if you look to the right of the switch panel and door seal in your photo you can just make out where the heads of the screws are, and it looks like that one has actually been taken out before and had another set of screws put in, four black dots) There is a 'shelf' that runs across the base of the dashes in each of the various Midas marks which does stiffen the tub but it's not the dash that does this.

It wouldn't be too difficult to make a dash from one variant fit another. I'm totally redesigning mine at the moment. If you're over this way , Blandford Forum, Dorset, then drop me a line and you're very welcome to have a look and a chat. I may enrol you in to the club proper though and hand you a copy or two of the club mag etc. :D

Thanks for the information. I'll stick with the one I've got for now to concentrate on the more important task of getting it running right for Hill Climbing in April, and plan to do in next winter's modifications. Thanks for the offer for a chat & look at your Midas - I'll definitely take you up on that at a convenient point for you early next year - you're only an hour away. With respect to club membership I’ve asked for it for Christmas from the kids, so you should see an application through any time soon. Cheers.
