It was well and truly gone still on the plus side it was easy to remove :-)

Not much of an update really but one side of the rear brakes is complete and the handbrake fulcrums freed off and the cable setup. The splice of the wiring loom is nearly there I just need to suss out which wire does the pad wear sensor and which does the fluid warning because they look to be the same colour...easy to do just not from the warmth of the workshop ;)

Dash fettling is the order of the day today so hopefully the radio cage will stop falling through the dash!!

Managed to get a reasonable amount done in the last week though forgot my camera again!! I've got the rear brakes assembled and bled though I'm not happy with the rear flexi hoses which look fine but I think have collapsed internally so are on the swap out list. At least now the hand brake is fully working rather than only partially working on one side it also works better with the Metro actuating levers fitted in the drums.

The new loom is now completely run and most of the changes made, using the '84-'90 Metro loom has simplified most of the changes as the engine loom is pretty much good to go as is. The only grotty task required is mounting the fuse/relay panel under the dash. For the heated front screen I've opted to lift the system from a Range Rover Classic/Discovery 1 it's pretty simple to build up and has the advantage of readily available OEM parts and a decent timer control system. Other than that it's just changing the wiper motor plug and the two speed Mini Mpi heater.

The dash is a bit of a challenge because when got the car first time around the dash was pretty wrecked and which I managed to work around in the process of fitting the MGF pod. It's not faired too well in the last ten years gaining more holes and water damage. I'm playing around with options at the moment but think I'm settled on the version below. Keeping half the previous skin panel covers the gaping holes in the original moulding the switches are Range Rover and the radio moulding is MGF. The plan is to cover the dash in Prussian blue and Lightstone beige vinyl to match the leather on the seats and the interior plastics which are a cross between Mini Mpi and Metro.

As with everything I could do with more time and money!!!

Hi, Mike, what exactly is the system from a Range Rover which you've used for the heated screen?

hi,

From about 1992 the Range Rover was fitted with a heated front screen so it's basically the components from that.

PRC6796 - Timer Relay
PRC6797 - Switch

The timer relays can be tricky to get cheaply but the switches are readily available.

One of these might be worth a bash.

Alternatives from Ford are available too, most Mk3 Granada's had them and most other mid 80's on Ghia models.

Finally managed some tinker time this weekend to polish off the wiring so now everything except the heated front screen is hooked up and working including the variable intermittent wash wipe which wasn't in the loom despite coming from a 1990 Gta. It appears that where earlier looms had the basics of the extra systems of more higher spec models the later cars had very little.

The two speed Mini Mpi heater works really well though I did get caught out having not noticed the increased bore of the demisters so I've ordered a new set of pipes and vents.

We also finally managed to get some carpet in the car hopefully if my eBay care parcel arrives this week I'll get the trim around the window.

I managed to get another day on the Midas today and it's finally starting to look like a car again :-)

Since I wasn't planning on fitting a rear seat I decided to make a cover with dual purpose of flatting out the boot floor and providing an out of sight storage place.

A quick check with the seats rested in to get an idea of how the planned colour scheme is going to work.

What a pig of a job that was but at least it's got some trim now!

Masked up the areas of the dash where the base foam wasn't required

I had such a fun time doing mine I've decided it should be a one off, that and my neighbours now think I have Tourette's ;-)

Looks pretty good on the test fit...

Added some shiny new stoppers too though the hoses were a pig to get a good seal on
