Headlight

Postby dusz » Fri Jan 23, 2015 11:53 pm

Started to look into re commissioning my Mk2. Last weekend I gave it a quick wash and managed to break the lens on one of the headlights, pity as the reflector was good.
Does anyone know of a supply of headlights?
Is the Allegro unit the same unit as used on the Triumph Toledo and Hillman Hunter?
Has anyone replaced the rectangular headlight with another type? LED, projector type etc.
Is it possible to fit 5 3/4" round units in place of the rectangular ones and is it then legal?
Thanks for any advice

I have seen on this forum a picture from Alan Donowho who has made an adaptor pod for the mk2 with 2 round Hella lenses in it. Looks quite cool.

These look like a good option http://www.powerfuluk.com/products/crys ... rokee.html

All the other options you mention should be possible too, bar any HID glass discharge lights if you want to stay legal ( they require washer jets and self-levelling )

Lots of small Hella lights could be made to fit, this example possibly being the best currently available, they do other versions too, you might want to sit down before asking the price though.

Would those jeep headlights fit in the bronze? I would have thought they were bigger? If they aren't I may have to get myself some.

They're the same size, so I don't see why not.

I'm pretty sure that Alan's photo is a bit of Photoshop. They do look good though and I'm making something similar for mine. The Hella units are indeed something to pull up a seat and sit down on it before looking at prices hence why I'm looking at other sources out of the scrapyards. I've got a number of possibilities, just got to find out what can actually be made to fit.

The problem with getting lights is not the actual light units it's the steel bracketry that holds them in as the Allegro units rust away and aren't made any more

No they are not Photoshoped.
But Hella lights cost more than a Midas car, another idea is MG TF headlights, if you strip them out of the outer case you are left with a similar set up to Hellas. You just then need to make mounting brackets and Perspex covers.

Do you require the mountings as well as the headlight? and LHD I presume?

These should fit, but they are for RHD, and there must be a much cheaper source for them.
