Your quite right, I've seen your setup and if I was going down the welded route I would choose this ideal.

My concerns regarding welded conversions centre around the Watson's setups and some home brewed concoctions I've seen on the mini forum.

This is the kind of thing I'm referring to not your well executed installation.

The spring plate has no reinforcements (just flat) and is only welded top and bottom, not only that but considerable amounts of the subframe and side plate have been cut away to aid access to the spring in situ. Considering it could have upwards of 4-5000lb/in acting upon it I'd rather not.

Not only that but I really do want bolt in.

Yours will be the first mk4 (to my knowledge) converted in such a way. David's is a mk3 so has coilovers.

ahh gotcha

shame they dropped that on the mk4 rear as it would have been a piece of cake by comparrison to fit a TF subframe to the front that come with coilovers fitted as standard and running a much more respectable 2:1 ratio as opposed to 3:1

oh well, gives me somthing to do....

As I caused this thread to get off topic a bit - but nevertheless very useful information - I thought I would bring it back with photos of my now completed AVONBAR engine....very shiny and looking forward to plugging it into the car ASAP !
