Rear Window

Postby Geoff Butcher » Fri Jul 07, 2017 8:02 pm

Today one of my gas struts detached itself at the window end, and in the process damaged the thread in the window fitting. I managed to jam it back in but clearly it's on borrowed time. Are these fittings Midas-specific or is there a source for them?
Incidentally I thought my 2 year-old strut felt a bit stiff for 80 Newtons so I checked it and it took 115 Newtons to shift it... :o

The fittings, like the struts, are generic gas spring fittings. If the strut is just two years old then you should be able to get a replacement from the strut supplier.

Hi, Alastair, the main problem isn't the strut itself but the the threaded boss which sits on the glass and which the strut end screws into. The internal thread became somewhat marmalised when the strut disconnected itself...

Hi Geoff,
I've just had some sets made in Stainless Steel. I posted pictures on the Facebook page.
