Which shows next for the club?

Postby ACourtney » Fri Nov 17, 2017 1:23 pm

Following a successful debut at the NEC Classic Motor Show last weekend, the question is which shows should the club be doing next year?

The club will still be pitching up at the usual popular venues - Stoneleigh, my open day, Stanford Hall and Castle Combe - which are all events for Midas owners to meet up with their cars.
This question really relates to the shows, like the Bristol Classic Car Show and the NEC Classic Motor Show, where the club takes a stand and exhibits some prime examples of Midas cars to promote the marque and the club.

Obviously it would be great to return to the NEC again, especially as November 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the Midas marque's debut. In fact the intention is to build up to a year of celebration following on from November 2018, but that can wait until later on. In the meantime we need to decide which shows to concentrate on to help us spread the word further into the classic car community. There is a possibility of taking a stand at the NEC in March for the Practical Classics Restoration show. This is a newer show than the November one, but is well supported by the magazine and is still growing - visitor numbers around 21,000 over two days compared with the Classic Motor Show's 72,000 over three days.

For the past two years, the club has visited Shepton Mallet for both the Bristol Classic Car Show in June and the Classic Restoration Show in November. The feeling among those on our stand last weekend was that there was too much concentration in the South West, considering that we also visit the Haynes Motor Museum (Rare Breeds Show) and Castle Combe (twice for the last two years!). It also hasn't gone unnoticed that the NEC show was the club's most northerly event for some time and it is only around a third of the way up England!

One show that has been mentioned as a possibility is the Manchester Classic Car Show to be held at EventCity over the weekend of 15th & 16th September 2018.
Have any MOC, or forum, members visited the show in the last few years? If so we would like to hear your comments.
It appears that the Manchester show is still growing, but as yet we haven't seen any confirmed visitor numbers.
So the club is really asking for the views of our owners in the North:
Is it worth the club booking a stand?
If so, would we be able to get half a dozen Midas owners to help out over the two days?

Remember that the reason the club is becoming active at classic car shows is to promote recognition of our cars as classics. The club will benefit if more enthusiasts become active with their Midas cars, but all Midas owners will also benefit as the value of our cars increases as they become more sought after.

I will also be putting this request up on the Midas Facebook page as I am aware that some Midas owners use that in preference to the Forum.
