Closure of Forum?

Postby coh1952 » Sun Mar 09, 2025 10:46 am

Due to legislation that will come into force in the near future, which will require immediate and on-going tasking by those already being distracted from caring for their Midases, and the fact that the forum is very rarely used, the closure of this forum to new posts is under consideration. As it contains a lot of good information, it may be retained as a source of material. Historical posts (such as all the parts I tried to sell that noone even looked at) will be pruned.
Please reply to this post if you have any strong feelings.
Thanks
Colin

I'm sad to see this under consideration, what exactly is required to meet the impending BS ?

Edit, I'm guessing these two links are what this thread relates to?

Can I as what immediate action is required to keep the forum compliant?

The headline risks in the links above are about as far removed from this forum as possible.

I know Stuart and I are checking in regularly and initial posts are moderated before suddenly appearing on the main board. I'm more than happy to continue on as I have been doing, I personally find Facebook an absolute nightmare for retaining information in a searchable format.

I agree with Rich. I dont have an account with facebook any more due to too much personal life intrusion. Put it this way, if the forum is considered being closed (which I personally built in the first place and I am still an admin and I pay for the URL every year out of my pocket through godaddy.) I will have it rehosted elsewhere.

Hi Rich. You too. I popped you an email. Not sure if its current, but one you supplied on here.

I checked some info around online safety and tbh its not onerous and up for debate. If it means detaching the club from the forum thats doable.

The FBHVC anticipates that some of the mandatory compliance requirements are already adhered to, in some form, as part of operating the existing club forums (moderating and dealing with inappropriate posts and behaviours, adherence to forum rules and processes for joining and identification) which should mitigate the burden of the new rules.

Hi David,

Yes the email just landed, I'll reply separately.

I would agree the OSA shouldn't be an issue here, the forum has always limited itself to the core subject. I would personally be far more concerned about what can be placed on a Facebook page than anything that is likely to be posted here.

Perhaps, this could just be the push needed to break from Meta back into an environment we can control and moderate better?

Absolutely agree re Facebook Rich . The structure of it didnt work for me and I guess I lost interest. This forum is specifically based around the Midas cars and bar the odd spurious usual spamming theres not been anything and I can see the spamming has been controlled by you guys anyway and through the controls around authentication. The forum could probably do with bringing up to date though with version revision and I noticed on godaddy that SSL certs werent assigned. Hopefully will be in next few hours once its applied.

It could definitely do with being brought up to date, I think the current version of the software was out of date in 2015. The latest release came out in November last year, so would be interesting to see how different it is. Something that works better on mobiles would be really useful.
