Speedo cables

Postby Geoff Butcher » Sat Jan 10, 2009 12:39 pm

How many different Metro speedo cables are there? The one on my car fitted the old (Smiths) speedo but not the present (Veglia?) one, although it's been working quite well until now just pushed in loosely. Now I have the dreaded needle twitch again and I don't know whether it's the cable or the instrument.

The needle twitch on my second Midas (and the only time I experienced it) was caused by a binding cable. I suppose the life of these cables is about 20 years.

Does this look like the right cable for the Veglia speedo?

I would say so, it is different than the ones I have on the older type pod.

That's the one I have for the Metro mk1 clocks where both the rev-counter and speedo are round.

The first one is for the Metro mk2 pod where the rev-counter is just half an arc or so.

Does that mean the Mk2 Metro cable plugs straight into the Rover 216 dash? It Looks like it does. I never knew that.

Highly likely David.

Off topic, I've just got a new fuel-pump to try on my car, it's only a QH copy one.

Both my clocks are round but it's a Veglia unit which according to Haynes is on later cars, Smiths on earlier.
I'm getting more confused!
