I must have been tired last night, Graham walker is spares not insurance and I'm an idiot - Footman James I meant. Thanks for the information.

I agree that the Scimitar SS1 is an acquired taste, but the Scimitar Sabre shows just how close to perfection they got it, or rather how little it had to change to look fantastic. Check out the one on ebay that appeared immediately after I bought the Gold:

I also have to confess that I have owned a close relative to the kitten... Personally I rather enjoyed it. Obviously turning while breaking is a no no but it's remarkable what you can achieve if you get your breaking over before you begin to corner and then gently accelerate into the turn...

Today will be mostly about soldering and insulation... :D

Aarh! If we're talking 3 wheelers, then I too must confess to the ownership of 1 purple Regal and 1 bright orange Robin van. A lot of fun indeed and far safer than the spoof drive Top Gear broadcast! ;) Span the van 180 degrees in rutted snow which shook me a little :D That Sabre does look nice.

Ah, the Kitten.
I learned to drive in my mothers Kitten, also learned to do handbrake turns and J-turns in it :o :D :D
Also, it's precursor in our house was a Robin. Went round a roundabout well over on two wheels in that one!

Well, that's our guilty three wheeled past revealed for all to snigger at. I would recommend people to try them as they are far more fun than Clarkson would have you believe.

Reporting on today's fiddling, I have managed to get the indicators, horn and driving lights back into the land of the living. The choke warning light is up and the dash seems to be healthy, although the handbrake warning light, blower, brake lights and reversing light, hazard, main and dip are no where to be seen while the windscreen wipers just need earthing (although the original wiring is simply AWOL) but only seems to have a single speed. The wiring to the controls has been pretty badly chopped up, but I think the damage is mostly localised, although there are random wires floating about and several earth points that clearly had wires which are not obvious any more. I suspect snipping may have occurred...

If there is some obvious pattern I'm missing, I would be very grateful for any comments. In fact any wisdom on this would be a treat!

Cheers,

Matt

The bottom line is that I'm waiting on a Haynes manual to get a clearer idea of what things should look like. If I'm lucky it might all suddenly make sense...

I've never driven a three wheeler on the public roads, but when I worked on a gliding site in 1984, we used a cut-down Bond Bug to tow gliders around the airfield - and to tow the fire tender (a lightweight trailer with two extinguishers on it)...
...cut-down, as in, someone had cut the top of the roof off. I have no idea why they did this.

I can e-mail the wiring diag's in pdf format if that will help.
Tried to send them as an attachment on here but they are just over 2mb and so not allowed.

Code: Select all
I can e-mail the wiring diag's in pdf format if that will help.

That would be quite helpful as mine are currently somewhere between ebay, the post office and my front door. I'll PM you my email.

I'm going to visit a breakers today and so will get to look at how the wires are arranged when they haven't been snipped and randomised by a maniac. Being able to connect my notes directly to a wiring diagram will be rather helpful.

In other news, Alistair has PM'd me and been extremely helpful (and has the moulding that I need at a very reasonable price) so that's one more minor mess that is suddenly solved!

Thank you very much both of you.

I've managed to shrink the files enough to get them on here.
Hope they help.

Hi Maphet, when I bought my Midas I was given a wiring diagram with the rest of the paperwork. It wasn't great because it had several flaws, the diagram shows three relays and my car had five, it doesn't show the dim/dip gizmo and it doesn't show the wiring for a vaiable speed wiper setup (mine never had this but it was something that I wanted to fit myself). Anyway I've attached a scan of the diagram along with some of my notes about the fusebox wiring, the steering column wiring (notes supplied by Midas) and the instrument pod wiring (this was for the mk1 metro pod). When I got my later Midas someone had been at the loom and it was a nightmare, however when I removed the alarm system everything came right I still get the shivvers if I have to do anything with the electrics.

Hope this helps, happy spaghetti sorting.

Regards Mark

It seems that I can only do three files at a time, here is the wiring diagram.
I know that they are ridiculously large but it might help if you need to print them.
