Hi Everyone,
Due to some interest, thought it would be best to post a full hostory of the car as I know it.
My sister bought this in 2000 having seen another Midas earlier in the year and falling for the car. She loved it, used it daily, then when it developed a fault she developed a fear of getting it fixed and sold it to me. A ten quid part later and it was fine, mine and given a proper bit of fun driving. I hillclimbed it a couple of times, and at my last run I spun, slid sideways into a bank and rolled onto the space where the roof would normally be. Much to everyone's surprise, damage was limited to bend suspension and it drove home. As it rolled onto grass, not a scratch on the body but a broken passengers door glass and bent drivers door frame (window was rolled down).
My intention was, of course, to do all the necessary repairs but before I had time to think I'd moved to Australia and it was laid up in my parents garage. It was running at the time, started in 2001 when I was back for a visit then not run again. I started to repair in ernest when I returned in 2002, replacing the rear subframe with a rot free donor (shotblasted, primed and painted for good measure) then for some reason bought a race car and that's been the end of the work on the Midas for ten years. Much as I'd love to do more, since then I've got a wife, who has a Morgan needing rebuilt, plus a young family, so time is tight. Needless to say if I start on the Midas before the Mog I'd be as well filling in the divorce papers at the same time, so my sensible head says it's time to clear the space in my parents drive and let someone else get it back on the road and enjoy it.
What needs done?:
Replace front subframe (I bought one, but I never realised at the time it was for a K-series Metro, still got it)
Replace passenger door glass
Repair drivers door frame (a bit of welding) and refit mirror
Replace fuel lines (I took the plastic ones out to replace with copper)
Replace fuel pump (unless I can find the original)
Refit the interior (took the soft stuff out and dry stored, so no dampness or mould)
Do the usual work you'd do to an engine which has been laid up for years
Replace battery
Spec:
Midas Gold Convertible in British Racing Green
MG Metro Turbo engine, standard, top end rebuild in 2000 before being laid up
Black/grey interior with bare dash finished in gelcoat
Electric windows
Four speaker stereo
Electric windows
Remote central locking with two key fobs
Hood is decent
Gelcoat is in pretty good condition, a few marks here and there.
I think that sums it up, feel free to fire any questions my way and I've attached some photos of the car as it stands.
Thanks,
Baz
